报告内容及摘要:The session will be divided into two parts. In the first part, Dr Huang will present a working paper entitled “The role of strategic and versatile resources for venture growth”. The second part will focus on practical tips about academic writing, career development, and dealing with imposter syndrome.
The resource-based view (RBV) suggests strategic resources, which are valuable, rare, and difficult to substitute or imitate, are sources of competitive advantage that can contribute to venture outcomes. However, the empirical findings on the impacts of strategic resources on venture outcomes are inconclusive. This might be because previous research has devoted limited attention to the potential interdependencies between different resources and the environmental contingency that might influence the value of resources. Using a configurational approach, we explore how strategic resources (intellectual property) interact with versatile resources (human and financial capital) to explain venture growth under different environments. We applied fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) on a four-year longitudinal dataset consisting of 825 firms. Our findings show strategic resources alone are not sufficient to explain venture growth, and ventures need to complement strategic resources with versatile resources such as human capital and financial capital for venture growth. Moreover, we uncover the environmental contingency that can influence the value of resources such that environmental munificence can compensate for a venture’s lack of financial capital. Our findings contribute to the RBV and human capital literature, as well as offering guidelines for entrepreneurs on how to configure resources for venture growth.
主讲人简介:黄双发博士、助理教授,谢菲尔德大学管理学院(SUMS)学生体验中心主任。在加入SUMS之前,黄双发曾是朴茨茅斯大学创业与创新的高级讲师以及商业与管理博士项目的主任。黄双发于2018年在兰卡斯特大学获得管理学博士学位。在开始他的学术生涯之前,他在制造业工作了10年。他目前的研究兴趣包括在中小企业(SMEs)和初创企业背景下的创业、创新和可持续性。他在《小企业经济学》、《商业研究杂志》、《国际创业行为与研究杂志》、《欧洲管理评论》和《欧洲管理杂志》等同行评审期刊上发表了12篇以上的文章。
